On the morning of 23 March 2022, the unthinkable happened
Following a severe explosion, the Centre de Valorisation des Aliments (CVA) suffered a devastating fire. Once the victims of the tragedy were safe, our thoughts turned to the 8000 bottles of sparkling wine we had stored there... including our best Intégrale vintage. Against all odds, some of our wines were intact. They were indeed ‘the lucky ones’.
From chaos springs hope
Every wine is unique and can never be reproduced. This is why each vintage is so dear to us winemakers. We simply could not abandon our sparkling wines to their fate in a condemned building. To say we did everything in our power to save L’Intégrale and L’Exception would be an understatement.
Quality above all
An independent tasting committee and a lab analysis both confirmed a fitting organoleptic transformation and a completely smoke-free taste. These remarkable survivors therefore deserve a second chance.
Rising from the ashes
The bottles once stored at the CVA wear the scars of their misfortune. Those scars are a testimony to the resilience of our sparkling wines as, even in adversity, their integrity remained.
Those vintages may not have aged as we had hoped but we now need to respect their individuality and their uniqueness. They were crafted with care, stored carefully, went through unexpected hardship, recovered and transformed into something new. Their story is ours. Once upon a time, there was energy and matter... and wine that rose from the ashes.
